President 2011-12 Anne Willey

It gave me great pleasure this month to mark a very special date in the Wortley Rotary Clubs calendar the 40th Charter Anniversary. I decided as the first lady President in the history of our club to break with normal traditional charter events of after dinner speakers and long speeches, without losing respect of the Rotary Movement. Our own Rtn Rev Lewis Atkinson said grace and President Elect Rtn Steve Patterson gave the two toasts. As our DG Terry Sykes was unable to attend Rtn Malcolm Webb past DG and past Wortley President was asked to respond to my welcome message. He spoke in a sincere way and remarked how his heart will always be at Wortley Rotary Club although his membership is at Lincoln club.
I was both surprised and pleased to welcome Rtn Bas Blackburn District Sergeant at Arms, Presidents and President Elects from Lindum Lincoln, Scunthorpe Pentagon, Sheffield, Barnsley Rockley together with respective members. It was themed as a forties night entertainment headed by Bobby Knutt, one of our honorary members as M.C. and two local acts, George Formby and Dearne Big Band. The venue at Wortley Hall Ball room was decorated with patriotic flags and balloons which as you walked through the door set the forties theme splendidly. Members family and friends were invited to wear forties attire should they wish to and I was so pleased that so many got into the swing of things so to speak.
I am so proud of the members of our club who supported the event and especially to the members who helped to organize it, I couldn't have done it without you, and finally I would like to add the lovely comments the club have received and enjoyment they had at our 40th Charter Anniversary will be remembered for a long time (some of the clubs using the idea!) Thank you.

President Anne
